Biography of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 - 1892)Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom in 1850, and after William Wordsworth he is one of the most popular English poets. He wrote a number of phrases that have become commonplace in the English language, including: "nature, red in tooth and claw", "better to have loved and lost", "Theirs not to reason why, / Theirs but to do and die", and "My strength is as the strength of ten ,/ Because my heart is pure".
